British Columbia Lottery Corporation/Media Release: Canada's Biggest-Ever Lottery Draw This Friday

LOTTO MAX Jackpot hits $50 million, plus 10 MAXMILLIONS prizes of $1 million each!

RICHMOND, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Nov. 3, 2009) - It may be just seven weeks old, but Canada's new national lottery game has quickly grown to record heights, with this Friday's LOTTO MAX draw set to become the largest in Canadian history.

Growing since the game was launched on September 19, 2009, the LOTTO MAX jackpot has now reached its cap of $50 million! This means any further top-prize money is allocated to a series of additional MAXMILLIONS prizes each worth $1 million, and each with its own individual draw and set of seven winning numbers. For this Fridays draw, an estimated 10 MAXMILLIONS prizes of $1 million each are available to be won.

This is a new Canadian lottery record, with the total top-prize money available on Friday's draw ($60 million) exceeding the October 26, 2005 LOTTO 6/49 draw, which featured a record jackpot of $54.3 million.

LOTTO MAX game details:

  • Draws held on Friday nights (first draw held September 25, 2009)
  • Players receive three chances to win (seven numbers each) per $5 play
  • In order to win a jackpot, players must match 7/7 numbers (from one to 49)
  • Odds of winning a jackpot are one in 28.6 million per play
  • Odds of winning any prize are one in 6.6 per play
  • Jackpots, which start at $10 million, "roll" to the next draw date if they are not won, with additional $1 million MAXMILLIONS prizes created after the $50 million mark is reached

LOTTO MAX can be played at BCLC retail locations across the province. Winning numbers will be published as quickly as possible following each draw, and customers should note that the MAXMILLIONS prizes will require some extra time for the additional draws to be held.
