British Columbia Lottery Corporation: 'Millionaire March' Continues as Abbotsford Woman Wins BC/49 Jackpot

RICHMOND, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - March 22, 2010) - A 25-year-old Abbotsford resident has become the second woman this month to win the BC/49 jackpot.

Rachel Paimen matched 6/6 numbers on last Saturday's BC/49 draw to claim the game's $2 Million top prize. Paimen joins fellow winner Ivy Leung of Vancouver, who collected her $2 Million prize on March 3.

Paimen, who works as a housekeeper, is also the second major jackpot winner from Abbotsford this month, with 53-year-old Ivan Catchpaw claiming $9.5 Million just twelve days earlier.

"I started running around the house screaming and I've been shaking ever since," said Paimen, describing her reaction to the news that she'd won. "It means I won't have to shop in the clearance section anymore," she joked.

Paimen says she plans to go to Mexico on vacation before going back to school to get her degree.

Paimen's win brings the total amount of top prize money awarded so far this month in B.C. to a staggering $48 Million. Other lucky B.C. lottery winners this month include:

- March 1 – $25 Million won by Derek & Frances Bird of Surrey (Lotto Max)

- March 3 – $2 Million won by Vancouver's Ivy Leung (BC/49)

- March 9 – $9.5 Million won by Kevin Bowser of Houston, B.C. (Lotto Max)

- March 10 – $9.5 Million won by Abbotsford's Ivan Catchpaw (Lotto Max)

Paimen's lucky BC/49 ticket was purchased at Pricesmart Foods on South Fraser Way in Clearbrook.

BC/49 is a BC-only lottery game drawn on Wednesdays and Saturdays after 6 p.m. (PST) that gives players a chance to win up to $2 million for $1. Tickets can be purchased at any BCLC lottery retailer or online at
