British Columbia Lottery Corporation: Vegas Bound Victorians Win MAXMILLION

Pre-Flight River Rock Casino Lotto Stop Pays Huge Dividends

RICHMOND, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - June 17, 2010) - A pre-flight detour to the River Rock casino has proved lucrative for two Victoria men on their way to Las Vegas.

22-year-old cousins Travis Fritz and Kurt Jankowski were heading to the airport when they decided to stop at the Richmond casino, where they wound up buying a ticket for last week's LOTTO MAX draw (featuring a $50 Million jackpot and 27 additional MAXMILLION prizes of $1 Million each).

As luck would have it, the pair's ticket was one of three sold in B.C. to win a MAXMILLION prize, meaning the friends will share a cool $1 Million.

"We figured if we lost all our money in Vegas we could return home and still have a chance to win big," said Jankowski, a student.

"We came back empty so our back-up plan definitely paid off," added Fritz, who works as a catering attendant.

Jankowski was the first to learn of the win when he checked the ticket at a local convenience store in Victoria, but a subsequent phone call to Fritz was greeted with more than a little skepticism.

"Travis hung up on me twice," he explained. "I finally had to go over to his place and show him the ticket before he would believe me! Now we're looking at investments."

The lucky duo join North Vancouver's Sammy Amiralaei, 27, who was the first to claim one of the three MAXMILLION prizes earlier this week.

No winning ticket was sold for last Friday's $50 Million LOTTO MAX jackpot, which means the game's top prize has been carried over to this Friday's draw. In addition to the main jackpot, the draw will also feature an estimated 45 MAXMILLION prizes of $1 Million each, giving players 45 more opportunities to win a jackpot prize with each ticket. With an estimated $95 Million in total jackpot prize money to be won, this Friday's LOTTO MAX draw is set to become the largest in Canadian lottery history.

If no ticket wins the $50 Million jackpot, it will again carry forward to the next draw, along with any MAXMILLIONS that are not won. However, if the $50 Million jackpot is won, any MAXMILLIONS that are not won will be added on to the next jackpot, which resets to $10 Million.

LOTTO MAX can be played at all BCLC retail locations and online at Tickets are sold until 6:00 p.m. (PDT) on draw day (Friday). Winning numbers can be found online at following each draw.
