CANEX Opens a New Retail Outlet for Canadian Forces Personnel

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 19, 2010) - The Chief Military Personnel, Major-General Walter Semianiw, today presided over a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4210 Labelle St. to mark the official opening of a new CANEX store, and the only CANEX "retail outlet" in the National Capital Region.

The proceeds from CANEX (Canadian Forces Exchange System) stores and concessions are used to finance a wide variety of social and recreational programs for the benefit of military personnel and their families. Last year alone, CANEX contributed over $4.5 million to the funding of such initiatives.

"CANEX helps us with our ongoing efforts to improve quality of life," said Major-General Semianiw. "From base newspapers to the Mission Information Line for families, we have worked hard to respond to the needs of our military personnel and those who support them."

The 11,000-square-foot store located near St. Laurent Shopping Centre will sell, among other things, brand-name furniture, appliances and electronics.

"We are pleased to offer serving and retired Canadian Forces (CF) personnel and their families access to a CANEX retail outlet in the National Capital Region," said Gerry Mahon, the president of CANEX. "This store will carry major retail brands at competitive prices, and we remain the only official supplier of 'Support Our Troops' merchandise."

CANEX'S 42 stores and 200 concessions across Canada include retail outlets and grocery stores, ExpressMarts and SuperMarts. CANEX also offers CF personnel and former personnel a Club "XTra" Loyalty Program, a No Interest Credit Plan, a Home Heating Oil Discount Program, and home and auto insurance through the Personal Insurance Company of Canada.
