CATSA Presents its Winter Games Team and Reminds Travellers to Pack Smart

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 11, 2009) - Today, at the Toronto Pearson International Airport, CATSA presented its Winter Games team made up of Screening Officers going to British Columbia and those remaining vigilant at home. CATSA also reminded travellers that they need to pack smart to avoid delays at pre-board screening during the busy winter travel season.

During the Winter Games, CATSA will contribute to security efforts by providing additional temporary screening services at airports in British Columbia while continuing to provide first-class security and excellent customer service at all the other Canadian airports it serves.

CATSA has 153 Screening Officers from across the country travelling to British Columbia to help with additional screening requirements. Of this number, 32 come from Toronto Pearson. There are 1,349 Screening Officers employed by Garda providing security screening at the airport.

"Screening Officers across the country during the Winter Games will be as vigilant as ever. That's because they understand that no matter where they are in the country, their efforts - individually and collectively - make a difference", said Kevin McGarr, President and Chief Executive Officer at CATSA.

Travellers were also reminded about the importance of packing smart as they head for the airport. Delays are often caused by travellers who are not prepared. CATSA invited air travellers to visit its new and improved Web site at www.catsa.gc.ca. The redesigned site includes a Pack smart section that's contains all the information needed before going to the airport, a mobile site easily accessible from smart phones and videos that explain the screening process. Travellers can also create their own customized carry-on checklist.

CATSA also highlighted some of their initiatives aimed at informing the travelling public before they arrive at airports. These include a strong on-line presence on various travel sites where travellers research, plan and book their flights; search engine marketing with Google; and partnerships with airports, airlines and travel agents.
