CBS 3 & The CW Philly 57 Invite Viewers to Participate in 21 Years of 'Joy of Sharing' to Benefit Children in Need This Holiday Season

PHILADELPHIA, PA--(Marketwire - November 25, 2009) - Join CBS 3 and CW Philly 57 for the stations' 21st annual Joy of Sharing toy campaign benefiting the Salvation Army. As part of the growing holiday spirit, Eyewitness News Anchors Chris May, Susan Barnett and Dave Huddleston, will be requesting new, unwrapped toys for local children through public service announcements airing on the two stations.

In addition, they, along with other members of the Eyewitness News family, Ukee Washington, Pat Ciarrocchi, Liz Keptner, Natasha Brown, Kathy Orr, Doug Kammerer and Beasley Reece, will be sharing their personal memories of the season on air throughout the holidays to appeal to others to give a hand to those in need.

The Joy of Sharing campaign kicks off this Friday, November 27th as The CW Crew, Kharisma McIlwaine, Christian Ramirez-Coll and Vittoria Woodill, appear at the Blue Cross River Rink at Penn's Landing in Philadelphia from 3 to 5 p.m. to officially launch the toy drive by setting up collection bins. The River Rink will be giving $2 off admission to anyone who drops off a toy throughout the duration of the campaign. Pat Ciarrocchi will also be collecting toys this weekend as Grand Marshal of the Collingswood Holiday Parade, Saturday, November 28 at 10 a.m. on Haddon Avenue in Collingswood, New Jersey. Those attending the Parade are being asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy for a child in need this holiday season.

Other toy collection events this season include the Rittenhouse Square Tree Lighting Ceremony in Philadelphia where Meteorologist Kathy Orr will appear Thursday, December 3 (tree lighting at 5 p.m.). On Wednesday, December 9, Orr will be at Storybook Land in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey from 4 to 6:30 p.m. encouraging viewers to bring donations to her live weather broadcasts.

In addition, The Philadelphia Flyers will support the campaign by hosting a Joy of Sharing Day and collecting toys at the December 19 game against the New York Rangers. And, traffic guru Bob Kelly will urge those stopping by his Holiday Lights neighborhood tours showcasing displays throughout our area. 98.1 WOGL-FM will join CBS 3 and The CW Philly at select events offering the perfect holiday soundtrack for all of the festivities.

The Joy of Sharing campaign runs through Monday, December 21. This yearly tradition will allow the Salvation Army to provide toys for more than 50,000 children newborn to age 18 who might otherwise not have a gift to open on Christmas morning.
