Attention: Sports Editor, Travel/Tourism Editor OAKVILLE--(CCNMatthews - April 11, 2005) - The Royal Canadian Golf Association (RCGA), the LPGA Tour and the city of Edmonton announced today that the Canadian Women's Open will be conducted in Edmonton in 2007.

Edmonton had been selected to originally host the 2006 Canadian Women's Open, however scheduling conflicts with the 2006 LPGA Tour schedule and the unavailability of a suitable championship date forced RCGA officials to change Edmonton's host date to 2007.

"As one of Canada's premier national championships, it is our top priority to secure a date that logistically ensures as high a quality a field as possible," said Richard Desrochers, RCGA Chief Operating Officer. "Based on our discussions with the LPGA Tour and city of Edmonton, we felt that the available 2006 dates would limit our ability to recruit the best possible field to Edmonton.
We will now direct our full efforts into securing a new host city and venue that better fits the LPGA Tour dates available in 2006."

"There is no question that Edmonton will be a fantastic host city for an LPGA Tour stop but given the nature of the Tour dates we had available and the location of the events prior to and after, our recommendation was to delay a stop in Western Canada by one year," said LPGA Tour commissioner Ty Votaw. "The Canadian Women's Open has always been a very important event on the LPGA Tour and we will continue to work with the RCGA on a more feasible date for 2007."

"We are still very excited about the opportunity to host this premier professional golfing event and showcase the city of Edmonton in 2007," said Allan Scott, President and CEO, Edmonton Economic Development Corp. "We understand the scheduling challenges and logistical considerations in hosting an LPGA Tour event and appreciate that this decision was made in the best interests of securing a date that would deliver the best possible field to Edmonton's golf community."

In its 33-year championship history, Canada's only LPGA Tour event has twice been conducted in the province of Alberta. In 1996, the Edmonton Country Club hosted what was then the du Maurier Classic with Priddis Greens Golf and Country Club in Priddis, Alta. playing host in 1999. A golf course for the 2007 event has not as yet been confirmed.

Selection of a host city and host club for the 2006 Canadian Women's Open will be announced by the RCGA at a later date.

This summer, the stars of the LPGA Tour will battle for $1.3 million US at the 2005 BMO Financial Group Canadian Women's Open, July 11-17 at Glen Arbour Golf Course in Halifax, N.S. Tickets can be ordered by calling 1-866-571-LPGA or online through the Royal Canadian Golf Association website at or the BMO Golf website at
