MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - April 21, 2010) -

A correction from source is being issued with respect to the release sent out today at 10:01 AM EDT. The corrected version follows.

At a ceremony organized yesterday by the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA) at its "25 Years of Connected to the Community" gala, Pierre Karl Péladeau, President and CEO of Quebecor Media, handed a Connected to the Community Award to Jour de la Terre Québec director Pierre Lussier and Earth Day spokesperson Jacques Languirand. The award honours outstanding organizations that have partnered with Canada's wireless industry to make a contribution to their communities.

Quebecor Media and its Videotron subsidiary have worked closely with Earth Day for years on initiatives such as Videotron's ebilling program and the mobile handset recovery drive, These efforts encourage consumers to consume raw materials responsibly and to help safeguard the planet's resources.

Since the partnership began, 150,000 trees have been planted, 30,000 more are to be planted, more than 44,000 mobile handsets have been recycled and more than 180,000 customers have signed up to receive their Videotron bills via the Internet.

"Our partnership with Earth Day has paved the way for major initiatives that have had a real, positive impact on the environment, and today are a source of true pride," said President and CEO Pierre Karl Péladeau, adding: "Environmental stewardship is an essential part of our company's values, and the programs we have implemented provide tangible proof of this."

Earth Day

Earth Day, the biggest participative event in the world, is held every year on April 22. In Québec, the chief organizer of Earth Day is Pierre Lussier of the non-profit organization Projets Saint-Laurent. The purpose of Earth Day is to encourage individuals, organizations and businesses to take action to save the environment. It is a call to action to protect the planet -- on April 22 and every day of the year.

Biodiversity has been chosen as the theme of Earth Day for the next two years, in view of the UN General Assembly's decision to declare 2010 the International Year of Biodiversity.

Earth Calling!

Earth Calling! is an initiative launched by Quebecor and Videotron to recover unused or defective cell phones and give them a new lease on life by recycling their components and safely disposing of the hazardous materials they contain. Proceeds from the recycling and resale of the handsets are reinvested in Earth Day's green belt projects.
