Calgary-Based Craft Brewery Enters Its 25th Year of Brewing Operations on the Right Foot

Big Rock Brewery Income Trust announces 2009 financial results

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - March 23, 2010) - Big Rock Brewery Income Trust (TSX:BR.UN) ("Big Rock" or the "Trust") announced its financial results today for the year ended December 31, 2009. Net income for year ended December 31, 2009 increased to $7.4 million from $4.9 million in 2008. Management believes this increase reflects increased consumer demand, operational efficiencies and the positive effect of the brewery's long-term "return to our roots" business strategy.

Ed McNally, CEO and Chairman of Big Rock, commented on the results by saying, "2009 was an impressive year by all measures. We worked hard throughout the year and seeing such positive results is very rewarding". Management believes the momentum from 2009's strong financial performance will provide a solid foundation for continued success. Big Rock begins its 25th year of operations in 2010, which marks an important milestone for the brewery.

According to industry sources, in 2009 Canada's beer industry declined roughly 2.5% by volume, while Big Rock made significant advances, growing approximately 23% over 2008. The majority of this growth occurred in Alberta and British Columbia reaffirming Big Rock's strong ties to Western Canada. While sales of the new Lime Light Lager (introduced in June 2009) were strong, volume increased across the entire Big Rock portfolio. "It [Lime Light Lager] was an example of our nimbleness and agility. We were able to respond quickly to consumer demand, which was remarkably well received", added McNally.
