Canada Immigration Battle with the Elements Following Haiti Disaster

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Feb. 16, 2010) - Canada immigration has been impacted by the Haiti earthquake. Following the disaster the province of Quebec has widened the term 'family member' to include brothers, sisters and adult children aged over 22. This means that relatives caught up in the disaster can now be sponsored for immigration to Canada and a Canadian visa.

The Haiti catastrophe has prompted the overnight growth of up to 3000 illegal Canada immigration consultants across Quebec.

The Canadian immigration authorities are acting to warn people of the perils of paying for advice from these supposed experts. The Haiti earthquake has seen hundreds of people desperate to obtain a Canada visa, and Canada immigration authorities are warning people that the advice they are being given that they can be sure of obtaining a Canadian visa for a price is simply a sales pitch. There are reports of people paying up to $15,000 to these consultants in the hope of staying in Canada, and that they are being advised to lie on their application forms.

'Ghost agents' have been successfully prosecuted, and last year saw Baldev Pandher convicted of fraud. Ruling in the case, the judge said;

"Immigration professionals who earn an honest living have a lot to be proud of and the fact that the courts have convicted Mr Pandher … sends a strong message to everyone – if you dupe unsophisticated immigrants out of their dream of coming to Canada, you will be punished."

The Canadian government wants to remove uncertainty, and hopes that the new Canada immigration rules and an ad campaign warning about fake immigration consultants will address this recently-escalated situation.

Liam Clifford from world-leading immigration company and Canada immigration specialist Global Visas says;

"Global Visas feel appalled that certain individuals have seen this as an opportunity to take advantage of vulnerable people."
