Canada's New Government Announces an Appointment to the Canada Industrial Relations Board

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 15, 2007) - The Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Labour and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, today announced the appointment of Ms. Elizabeth MacPherson as Chairperson of the Canada Industrial Relations Board.

"I am pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. MacPherson", said Minister Blackburn. "The Canada Industrial Relations Board will value her knowledge and experience in mediation and conciliation of labour issues."

Ms. MacPherson is the Director General, Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, with the Labour Program since April 1999. Her career experience has included executive positions in mediation and conciliation within a number of different organizations, including the Canadian Artists and Producers Professional Relations Tribunal. She also held the position of Special Advisor to the Associate Deputy Minister of Labour.

In 2006, Ms. MacPherson taught industrial relations at the University of Ottawa's School of Management. She holds a Bachelor and a Master in Laws from the University of Ottawa. She is an active volunteer and a member of numerous organizations and councils including the Law Society of Upper Canada.

The Canada Industrial Relations Board was established on January 1, 1999, as an independent, representational, quasi-judicial tribunal. Its mandate is to interpret and apply the provisions of Part I and certain provisions of Part II of the Canada Labour Code.
