Canadian Heritage: Minister Oda Invites Canadians to Celebrate International Museum Day

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - May 18, 2006) -

By Beverley J. Oda

Minister of Canadian Heritage and Status of Women

Museums are the guardians of our heritage and our collective memory. They are full of treasures that bear witness to the fascinating history of our communities and our country. For nearly 30 years, International Museum Day has been celebrated around the world. This year, under the theme "Museums and Young People," everyone is invited to get involved and rediscover art, culture, history, science and technology.

As Minister of Canadian Heritage and Status of Women, I encourage all Canadians to take part in International Museum Day. Head to your local museum or visit the Virtual Museum of Canada (www.virtualmuseum.ca), which has been offering access for the past five years to the riches of our Canadian museums.

Happy discoveries!
