Canadian Orthopaedic Foundation Appoints New Board of Directors

Attention: Business/Financial Editor, City Editor, Health/Medical Editor, News Editor TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 30, 2005) - The Canadian Orthopaedic Foundation, Canada's only charitable organization dedicated solely to helping people maintain and restore their bone and joint health, announced today the adoption of new by-laws and a new Board of Directors.

"The new board is impressive in terms of their breadth of expertise and commitment to a prosperous and relevant Foundation," says Douglas Thomson, president and CEO. "With the new governance framework and the dedicated staff of the Foundation, we are poised to strengthen the trust of our donors and the benefit to the patients we aim to serve."

Paul Wright continues to lead the board and holds the title of chairman. Paul is an orthopaedic surgeon at the Burnaby Hospital in Burnaby, B.C.

"This is only the third by-law change for the Foundation in 40 years," says Dr. Wright. "The by-law changes incorporate best practices and modern governance, bringing the Foundation to the leading edge of charitable governance."

Returning to the board are:
· Paul Wright (chairman), orthopaedic surgeon, Burnaby Hospital, Burnaby, B.C. (member of the board since 1994)
· Rick Buckley, orthopaedic surgeon and researcher, Foothills Medical Centre, Calgary, Alberta
· Urban Joseph, former vice-chairman, TD Bank and Officer of the Order of Canada
· Kevin Orrell (treasurer), orthopaedic surgeon, Sydney Medical Arts, Sydney, N.S.
· Frank Sim, orthopaedic surgeon, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, N.Y., U.S.A.
· Marilyn Wright, fundraiser and member of the board of Toronto's Sunnybrook and Women's Foundation

The board welcomes three new members that bring expertise in Canada's health care and research funding environments, and non-profit governance:
· Mike Cloutier, president and CEO, AstraZeneca Canada Inc.
· Denis Morrice, ambassador, Bone & Joint Decade
· Chris Nelson, president, Chris Nelson Consulting Inc.

Joining the board in an ex-officio position are:
· Douglas Thomson, president and CEO, Canadian Orthopaedic Foundation
· Angelique Berg, executive director, Canadian Orthopaedic Foundation
