Canadian Physicians to Speak Out on Climate Change and Nuclear Disarmament

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Sept. 23, 2009) - Physicians for Global Survival (www.pgs.ca), Canadian affiliate of 1985 Nobel Peace Prize winner IPPNW, will join the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment (www.cape.ca) to discuss the public health impacts of global warming and nuclear weapons.

Physicians and other experts will meet and speak on these critical topics at a medical conference to be held in Montreal on Friday, September 25 and Saturday, September 26. The conference, entitled "The Time is Now! Healing the Planet: Creating a Sustainable and Peaceful Future", is open to the public.

The climate crisis, which threatens our future, will be the object of a crucial UN Conference in Copenhagen, next December, and Canada may again be chastised by the world community for failing to fulfill its responsibilities. And on September 24, President Obama will be addressing the UN Security Council on Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Disarmament; this issue was a central part of his Presidential campaign victory.

At the Montreal conference, renowned experts such as the Honourable Douglas Roche O.C., Dr. Gordon Edwards and Dr. Warren Bell will speak on these two alarming global health issues which are uniting Canadian physicians in a common cause. The opening address, to take place on Friday, September 25, at 6:30pm, will feature Ms. Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada. There will be a question period.
