Canadians Mourn Tragic Accident that Claims the Lives of Eight New Brunswickers

ST. STEPHEN, NEW BRUNSWICK--(Marketwire - Jan. 12, 2008) - The Honourable Greg Thompson, Minister of Veterans Affairs and regional minister for New Brunswick, issued the following statement today after a tragic overnight crash on Route 8 claimed the lives of one adult and seven members of a local Bathurst, N.B. high school basketball team:

"Our province, and all Canadians, join the community of Bathurst in its grief over the tragic loss of these seven young people and one adult. As the details continue to emerge, we know the residents of Bathurst will face a truly difficult time coming to terms with the great and sudden loss of some of their community's finest citizens.

"On behalf of all Canadians, I would like to extend deepest sympathies to the families and friends of the eight New Brunswickers who died in this terrible crash. You are not alone as we keep you in our hearts and prayers."
