Captioning Committee of New Life Church: Accessibility Leads to New Life

MILTON, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 10, 2007) - In these incredible times of advanced technology, it may be surprising that only one Church in all of Canada captions their Church services! For the past 10 years, Pat Gardiner and her team of six court reporters have been providing access for the Deaf, deafened and hard of hearing during the Sunday Worship service at New Life Church in Milton, Ontario.

Captions are a text version of the spoken word displayed on a viewing screen or monitor. Captioning makes an event accessible to the Deaf, deafened and hard of hearing who otherwise would be unable to follow what was being said.

Accessibility makes all the difference in the world to those who require assistance and technology to participate in everyday situations that many of us take for granted.

On Sunday, October 14, 2007 at 10.45 am, New Life Church will launch a ground breaking new Community Outreach Project to be known as "Ruthie's Program". Realizing the need for accessibility beyond Sunday services, the Captioning Committee wants to provide accessibility to those in the community who may require captioning to participate in normal life activities such as weddings, funerals, meetings, community events, informational seminars etc. Through the generosity of sponsors such as St. Mary's Cement, this program may be available to those needing this service who are not in a position to pay.

Captioning church services and events will open a door for thousands who are not able to participate in services because of hearing loss and those who are learning English as a second language!
