Cathay Pacific's New Cabin Features

Cathay Pacific's new inflight products will include a brand new seat, cabin design and inflight entertainment introduced in First, Business and Economy classes. The product will be installed on all the airline's new deliveries and also retrofitted on Cathay Pacific long-haul aircrafts that are already in operation.

"The design brief was to create a cabin environment that is both natural and soothing, and at the same time very well-appointed," said Cathay Pacific's Product Manager Sarah Blomfield. "Our goal is to create a level of quality and attention to detail that exceeds the ordinary and makes our passengers' in-flight experience as extraordinary and comfortable as possible."

First Class Cabin

Cathay Pacific's research indicated a strong expectation among passengers that the First Class product should be taken to a new level by increasing individual privacy, creating the ambience and convenience of a five-star hotel room, and giving passengers greater individual control over the immediate environment. The new First Class cabin provides more space and more privacy, creating the feel of a private relaxation suite.

An innovative new seat can be used as an armchair, a chaise lounge or an extra long and wide bed. 'The Largest Bed in the Sky' has added comfort with a plush mattress, duvet and lumbar massage function. An ottoman in the suite and an extendable table means passengers can invite friends or colleagues to join them in their suite in-flight.

Subtle lighting provides the right ambience within the suite, while passengers can enjoy a cinematic experience with the bigger, highly adjustable personal television. Three contiguous working surfaces and in-seat power are provided, allowing the suite to be quickly converted into a workstation. Additionally, all cabin baggage can be stowed in the suite itself, providing easier access to personal possessions.

Business Class Cabin

The new long-haul Business Class cabin has been designed to meet the working requirements of business travelers without any compromise in comfort, quality or attention to detail. The cabin employs a herringbone layout that allows unrestricted aisle access from each seat. Each passenger can enjoy their own private area in which space has been maximized in all seating modes.

The Business Class product features a new seat that transforms to a fully flat bed. Ergonomically tested foams further improve sitting/ lounging comfort and promote restful sleep. Simple seat controls allow full adjustment, including lumbar support, while a two-way massage function aids blood circulation.

Passengers are in full control of their own living area which features generous stowage space with all utilities, including a 15" tilting screen and noise-reducing headset, within easy reach. Each seat is equipped with a 110V AC power supply for personal electronic devices and attention has been paid to providing good illumination for passengers who wish to work. Mood lighting in the cabin and new soft furnishings and catering equipment add to the overall enhancement.

Economy Class Cabin

The new Economy Class cabin has been completely changed, with a new seat product redefining the form and function of the traditional Economy Class seat. The new seat features a 'fixed back' design, similar to a mini-Business Class seat, which allows the passenger to recline without intruding on those seated behind. This is the first Economy Class seat in the airline industry to provide a fixed living space and passenger recline in this manner. In addition, the seat frame and structure has been designed to maximize knee and shin clearance and remove awkward fixtures and fittings that undermine comfort. The seat features exclusive LEAP Live® Back™ technology, which provides dynamic and continuous support for the spine in all positions. Other features include a bigger personal television and the introduction of audio and video entertainment on demand.

The new long haul product will be featured onboard select Canada flights from October 2007.
