Cedarlane Natural Foods Joins With Zone Diet Founder to Launch Exclusive New Line of Frozen Foods

Products Will Be Nutritionally "Zoned" to Promote Wellness

CARSON, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- September 15, 2005 -- Cedarlane Natural Foods, one of the country's leading manufacturers of healthy and innovative frozen and fresh food products for nearly 25 years, announced today that it has formed a partnership with Zone Labs and its founder, Dr. Barry Sears, to launch an exclusive line of frozen items under the Cedarlane/Dr. Sears Zone brand.

The products, which will range from breakfast foods such as omelets to lunch, dinner and snack fare such as enchiladas, burritos and pizza, will be available to the retail channel by November.

"We are delighted to be associated in this venture with Zone Labs and Dr. Barry Sears, the world's leading authority on inflammation and dietary control of hormonal response," said Robert Atallah, founder and president of Cedarlane Natural Foods. "By joining forces, we can manufacture a wide range of frozen food products that are not only affordable, convenient and easy to prepare, but that are prepared with the proper balance of carbohydrates, fats and protein as prescribed by Dr. Sears and his Zone Diet.

"Perhaps most importantly, however, the recipes for all of our new 'Zoned' frozen products were carefully prepared and tested in the Cedarlane test kitchens to ensure high quality and great taste," added Atallah. "Those qualities are what consumers have come to equate with Cedarlane, and that's what we wanted to give them with our 'Zoned' line."

Since it was introduced over 10 years ago, Dr. Sears' Zone Diet has become one of the most respected and practiced dietary plans in the world, receiving acclaim from both consumers and the medical community alike. Millions of men and women have used it to lose weight and to develop a healthier lifestyle.

"Now, with our 'Zoned' frozen food products, even more people will be able to experience the health benefits of Dr. Sears' groundbreaking research," noted Atallah.

"What attracted Zone Labs to Cedarlane was Cedarlane's reputation for top quality products that deliver great taste," explained Dr. Sears. "Our alliance gives consumers many choices now to help manage their weight as well as receive the proper ratio of ingredients in their meals to maintain proper hormonal balance.

"While the Zone Diet is still perceived as a weight loss diet, it was originally developed as a life-long pathway to wellness through consistent hormonal balance. The new Cedarlane/Zone foods are a logical extension of that thinking," he added.

Dr. Sears also noted that Cedarlane's new "Zoned' frozen meals adhere to the newest guidelines set by the Joslin Diabetes Center at Harvard Medical School. "They are the only such meals to do so, and we are quite proud of that," he added.

The partnership between Cedarlane and Zone Labs began earlier this year and developed rapidly. With medical research linking heart disease, diabetes and other maladies to inflammation in the body, the goal of both parties was to create a totally new line of frozen products that would not only taste good, but also incorporate the Zone Diet's dietary requirements.

In 2005, Cedarlane will be introducing 10-12 new skus. The company projects that an additional dozen or more items will be available in the first quarter of 2006.
