Central Management of Multi-Site Wireless LANs Increases Performance 134%

84% of Top Performers Manage Their Multi-Site Wlan From a Central Location

BOSTON, MA--(Marketwire - April 8, 2010) -  Aberdeen Group, a Harte-Hanks Company (NYSE: HHS), today released its latest research on multi-site and campus-area wireless LANs (WLANs), Multi-Site and Campus-Area Wireless LANs: Benefits of the Centralized Approach. The study found that top-performing organizations used centralized WLAN management and control to improve their end-to-end network performance by 134%, their ability to comply with industry regulations by 76%, and their successful blockage of security breaches by 29%; all accomplished while cutting their multi-location WLAN budget as a percentage of total IT spend by 1%.

"An ad hoc approach may be satisfactory when usage levels are relatively low and the network is viewed as a convenience, rather than as business-critical infrastructure. However, as both on-site and cross-site WLAN traffic and bandwidth demand increases, inefficiencies of the system architecture and its management can become problematic," said Andrew Borg, senior research analyst, Aberdeen. "What enables the top performers to make these dramatic improvements is a coherent, consistent approach to managing the entire WLAN ecosystem as one network 'fabric,' inseparably interwoven with the wireline and Wide Area networks."

Aberdeen also announced the availability of an online interactive multi-site WLAN assessment tool based on the multi-site WLAN study, which enables end-users to compare their organization's WLAN performance to that of their peers and the top performers. Underwritten by Brocade Networks, the tool provides a complimentary downloadable performance scorecard, with customized recommendations based upon each individual's response.
