Chamber Unveils Program to Celebrate Ontario Visionaries

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 1, 2009) - The Honourable William G. Davis, former Premier of Ontario, will be the first annual inductee into the Ontario Visionaries, a distinguished society of the great legacy builders in Ontario. The annual inductee program is an initiative of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce.

"We believe it's important to pay tribute to those who have exhibited integrity, collaboration and leadership, and there can be no greater purveyor of these qualities than The Honourable William G. Davis," says Len Crispino, President & CEO of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce. "Today, when there is so much focus on the economic challenges facing our province, it's important to celebrate some of our larger achievements and their authors. As we move into a period of economic recovery, we'll continue to need strong leadership and collaboration like that exhibited by Premier Davis during his unmatched tenure."

Ontario Visionaries will annually recognize one Ontarian whose contributions to business, public policy, labour and the social fabric of Ontario, have served to advance the province's economy for the benefit of all who live, work and invest here.

The award ceremony will take place on November 2nd at the Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort, in conjunction with the opening night of the Ontario Economic Summit, an annual event that brings together business, labour, government, academia, and the non- profit sector, in order to identify some of the key economic building blocks for Ontario. Speakers will include former Premier Ernie Eves, former Cabinet Ministers Isabel Bassett and Dr. Bette Stephenson, Senator Hugh Segal, Paul Godfrey, President & CEO National Post, Niagara College President Dan Patterson and co-hosts Minister Jim Bradley and CFRB Radio host and former leader of the Ontario PC Party, John Tory.
