Charges Laid for Incident at CFB Borden

BORDEN, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Jan. 18, 2010) - The Canadian Forces National Investigation Service (CFNIS), the investigative arm of the Canadian Forces Military Police, charged a member of the Canadian Forces (CF) for attempted murder and other charges over the weekend in relation to an incident that occurred at Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Borden on January 15, 2010.

Private Jorden Hardy is charged with one count of attempted murder contrary to Section 239(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC), one count of aggravated assault contrary to Section 268 of the CCC, one count of assault contrary to Section 266 of the CCC, and two counts of failure to comply with condition of undertaking or recognizance contrary to section 145.3 of the CCC.

The Military Police and the CFNIS takes such allegations seriously and will thoroughly investigate any such allegations related to Canadian Forces personnel, civilian DND employees, or any other person on DND property.

The CFNIS is an independent Military Police unit with a mandate to investigate serious and sensitive matters in relation to National Defence property, DND employees and CF personnel serving in Canada and abroad.
