Popular Food Network host calls Canada's Gentle Island a "Chef's Paradise"

To underscore a thriving culinary scene grounded in local, fresh produce, Tourism Prince Edward Island (TPEI) has named Chef Michael Smith as its Food Ambassador. An Island resident and host of popular Food Network programs including Chef at Home and Chef Abroad, Chef Michael Smith will assist Prince Edward Island (PEI) in building its profile as a leading culinary tourism destination.

Leveraging his popularity and epicurean credentials, Chef Michael Smith will raise awareness of PEI as a destination for food lovers, specifically profiling Island-produced goods, hands on culinary experiences and restaurants. As the Island's resident Food Ambassador, Chef Michael Smith will act as a spokesperson for the province's food movement and will help build the Island's culinary brand by hosting fine food events like Fall Flavours and sitting on the board for the Culinary Institute of Canada in Charlottetown.

As one of the most important contributors to the province's economy, the food industry in PEI offers visitors fresh field-to-table dining and hands-on experiences. With miles of lush farmland and coastlines dotted with fishing harbours, restaurants such as Flex Mussels, Lot 30 and Dalvay by the Sea serve the highest quality lobster, oysters and mussels daily.
