TORONTO _ Celebrated Canadian chef Jamie Kennedy is getting out of the kitchen and heading to some of the world's gastronomic paradises -- and foodies across the country can share the experience.

Exotic tour operator Worldwide Quest announces Gastronomads: In Search of the Perfect Meal.
It's a series of food and wine tours accompanied by Kennedy, author of two acclaimed cookbooks and the Ontario Hostelry Institute's Chef of the Year, to such destinations as India, South America, Vietnam and Cambodia.

The inaugural excursion leaves Valentine's Day 2008, for nine decadent days in Chile and Argentina. "In my career, I've been tied to the stove a lot of the time for many, many years and would often hear of people's travels," says Kennedy. "And they would ask me if I'd ever been to this place or that and at first I would say 'No,' but I have started to change my answer to 'No, not yet.' "

Guests will dine with Kennedy, who imports wine from Chile's excellent wine-growing regions and from Argentina's Mendoza wine region, where the temperate, semi-arid climate yields ultra-ripe grapes. On one special evening, Kennedy will commandeer the kitchen of a popular restaurant to serve his guests local cuisine and demonstrate his techniques. Wines to complement the meal will be hand-selected by the chef. "There's a certain lens I will be looking through," says Kennedy. "Having been a gastronomer for 30 years, I might be able to interpret things for people through that lens. That's the role I see myself playing."

Kennedy says he's ready to take in the world, although most of his training took place in Europe.
"It will be all new for me," says Kennedy. "I'm more Euro-centric in my cooking and gastronomy; it centres around France and Spain and Italy, where I take most of my inspiration from. As I get older, I get more interested to explore the world."
As an added bonus, Kennedy will host a pre-trip celebration at one of his two Toronto restaurants, previewing for guests his passion for food and wine in Chile and Argentina.
