Chilean Telco Deploys Multiple PacketLogic Systems to Manage WiMAX and Satellite Broadband Services

Comunicación y Telefonía Rural S.A. Utilizes Procera's Flagship Platforms to Minimize Network Congestion, Ensure Quality of Service

LOS GATOS, CA--(Marketwire - October 1, 2007) - Procera® Networks, Inc. (AMEX: PKT), a pioneering developer of telco-class network traffic and service management infrastructure equipment, today announced that Comunicación y Telefonía Rural S.A. of Chile has deployed multiple PacketLogic products in its satellite and WiMAX networks to control and optimize bandwidth and to ensure quality of service (QoS) for its growing customer base. Procera reseller and systems integrator I-Systems S.A. of Santiago de Chile provide initial consultation and deployment of the PacketLogic Systems.

Formed in 1996 to serve rural Chile, Comunicación y Telefonía Rural (CTR) offers business and residential customers two options in broadband service: Satellite, which is available nationwide, and WiMAX, offered in 8 cities and the surrounding areas in southern Chile. With the privatization of telecommunications services in Chile, CTR faces a highly competitive environment. Compounding the problem, CTR's customers make frequent use of several national web sites that allow them to test their bandwidth speeds, and CTR received a number of customer complaints of slow connections. Working with I-Systems, CTR initiated testing of the PacketLogic system in their network, with nearly immediate results.

"Through PacketLogic, we were able to implement rules to balance our traffic and avoid congestion. We very quickly saw an improvement in traffic flow and thus an improved quality of service for our customers," said Rolando Toledo Duarte, manager of engineering and ISP for Comunicación y Telefonía Rural S.A. "We believe PacketLogic is a very good value, with a strong feature set that will support our future growth. We are also very satisfied with the support and training we have received from Procera and I-Systems."

PacketLogic has also allowed CTR to identify potential virus activity arising from users' computers, and then advise the customer to use antivirus protection -- further reducing the network traffic load. In the coming months, CTR plans to utilize PacketLogic's Python-base API to manage the customer disconnect/restore process across the disparate wired and wireless technologies in the network.

"Wireless broadband service providers in particular must balance their customers' expectations of high-quality broadband service against the reality of high-cost bandwidth," said Sven Nowicki, general manager of EMEA for Procera Networks. "Using PacketLogic has allowed CTR to maintain a competitive advantage through customer satisfaction, while avoiding expensive investments in additional infrastructure."

I-Systems has installed PacketLogic appliances at each of CTR's regional WiMAX hubs, and at the company's main satellite hub near Santiago, Chile. While the systems are administered locally to accommodate regional variations in bandwidth usage patterns, CTR utilizes PacketLogic's centralized reporting and management capabilities to view statistics and to propose filtering and rule configurations to the remote administrators.

The PacketLogic product family includes the PL5600, PL7600, PL7620 and PL9200 models, which range from 4 Mbps to 2.5 Gbps bidirectional throughput capacity. The modular software design includes Surveillance (standard in all PacketLogic systems), Filtering, Traffic Shaping, and Statistics options.
