Choo-Choo for Chocolate

CLARKDALE, AZ--(Marketwire - January 14, 2010) - If you've ever uttered the phrase, "Give me chocolate and nobody gets hurt," then the Verde Canyon Railroad Chocolate Lover's Festival is for you. Ride the rails into Arizona's most wildly scenic and undisturbed canyon where you'll discover the perfect backdrop for romance. Plus, there's plenty of chocolate to go around, so nobody gets hurt.

The Chocolate Lover's Festival annual event is scheduled during the Valentine's Day season. This year it runs February 10-14 and makes a delicious outing for sweethearts or anyone with a sweet tooth.

Few foodstuffs hold us so tightly in their sway as does chocolate. Cocoa butter melts at body temperature so the sensation of a chocolate morsel dissolving in a heavenly puddle on our tongue is seared in our memory. It's exactly the kind of experience you want to share with a special someone. The same can be said for the romance of a train ride.

Revel in the breath-snatching sights of the Verde Canyon while savoring hot cocoa, flavored coffee, specialty cocktails and a platter of sumptuous chocolate goodies. Enjoy the plush comfort of a first-class rail car and access to open air gondolas with your one and only Valentine.

Tickets are $89.95 per person. Make reservations by calling 800-293-7245 or online at

Just remember, if you've got melted chocolate all over your hands, you're eating too slowly.

See eagles soaring overhead and others nesting on high cliff ledges because Eagle Watch is in peak season during the winter months. Large numbers of bald and golden eagles visit the canyon, as well as other migratory birds and waterfowl.

February also marks the start of Spring in Bloom in the protected wilderness of Verde Canyon. Trees and shrubs at river's edge erupt in blossoms and wildflowers carpet the canyon floor in a riotous display.

Trains depart the depot at 1 p.m. and return at 5 p.m., just in time to mosey down to the Blazin' M Chuckwagon Dinner Show in nearby Cottonwood. Reserve this uniquely Arizona cowboy experience at the same time as train reservations.

The Verde Canyon Railroad depot is in Clarkdale, AZ, 25 minutes from Sedona and two hours north of Phoenix.
