Christina Tobin Announces Meetings With Editorial Boards of Two California Newspapers to Discuss Proposition 14

MILL VALLEY, CA--(Marketwire - April 12, 2010) -  Christina Tobin, Libertarian Party candidate for secretary of state of California, today announced meetings scheduled this week with the editorial boards of The Sacramento Bee and Santa Cruz Sentinel to present her position against California's Proposition 14, the controversial June 8 ballot measure.

Tobin will interview with Santa Cruz Sentinel on April 13 and The Sacramento Bee on April 14. Last week, the San Jose Mercury News endorsed Proposition 14 without inviting the opposition to present their arguments. The editorial included factual errors, which, in Tobin's opinion, demonstrates the paper's lack of knowledge of the issue. LA Daily News, Contra Costa Times, Oakland Tribune, and other California newspapers recently published editorials in support of Proposition 14 without hearing from the measure's opponents. Gary Toebben, president and CEO of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, supported the measure in a Fox & Hounds Daily article published last week.

"It is appalling that numerous California newspapers and business leaders are endorsing Prop 14 without hearing both sides of the issue," stated Tobin. "I applaud Santa Cruz Sentinel and The Sacramento Bee for giving the opposition a chance to be heard. I also want to thank the Santa Clara Chamber of Commerce for hearing both sides' arguments. All California media, business associations, and other groups should follow the example set by these fine organizations."

On April 11, The Sacramento Bee ran Tobin's response (http://www.sacbee.com/2010/04/11/2668442/another-view-open-primary-really.html) to Harry Kresky's March 28 op-ed, which criticized Ralph Nader for his opposition against California's Proposition 14.

"Voters rely on the media to educate them about ballot measures, but few media outlets and business groups are doing their jobs by listening to and reporting arguments from both sides," continues Tobin. "Readers deserve unbiased reporting, but so far many California newspapers have failed to demonstrate integrity in their Prop 14 coverage."
