Smart CEO, in an effort to educate its 17,000 local CEOs on the benefits of being environmentally friendly, developed the ECO CEO program to recognize environmental excellence in business and award those who are the innovators and catalysts for change in their industries and local community. Nominees were required to be located in the Greater Washington metro area and to show tangible examples of how they are implementing environmentally friendly products, services and technologies. Winners of the ECO CEO award were recognized in three specific categories -- Facilitator, Innovator and Implementer.

Facilitators are those companies assisting other businesses in achieving objectives of going green and being eco-friendly; innovators are those who have designed and introduced new processes, program or technologies to a point of solution; and implementers are those companies who take an innovative solution and integrate into their company, and/or a larger, more complex situation with the intent of going green and being more eco-friendly.

Delucchi+ is LEED® Silver Certified for Commercial Interiors by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The Delucchi+ office was designed by national green architectural firm, Kishimoto, Gordon, Dalaya, PC ( To achieve LEED Silver certification, the 5,600 square-foot office was designed as an open-space environment to maximize daylight and views, improve air quality, enhance creativity and increase employee productivity.

LEED certification of Delucchi+ was based on a number of green design and construction features. All materials used throughout the space are non-toxic to enhance air quality and eliminate toxicity. Environmentally friendly and energy saving materials used throughout the space include Shaw carpet tiles with recycled backing, low VOC paint and sealers, recycled cotton insulation, ceiling tiles with high recycled content, Energy Star appliances, low mercury lighting and new Teknion office furnishings made from recycled metal and fabric which are over 69% recyclable. The reception desk, for example, is custom-made from wheat and straw compressed material called Agriboard. Additionally, the employee lounge features a recycling center and only green cleaning supplies are used in the space.
