CipherMax CM140T Completes HP Tape Automation Compatibility Testing

HP Customers Can Seamlessly Encrypt Data on Legacy and LTO-4 Tape Media Using a Common Key Management Solution

DALLAS, TX--(Marketwire - October 15, 2007) - STORAGE NETWORKING WORLD -- CipherMax, the technology leader of enterprise-class storage security solutions, today announced that its CM140T storage security solution has been certified with the HP Tape Automation Compatibility (TAC) Partner Program and is now included on the HP StorageWorks Enterprise Backup Solution (EBS) Compatibility Matrix. This qualification provides HP customers with the assurance that the highly scalable CipherMax storage security solution integrates seamlessly with HP tape libraries and tape drives, including both legacy and LTO-4 media. HP customers can now protect data on Storage Area Networks using CipherMax's wire-speed encryption solution, which provides common key management for legacy and new tape media as well as optional switching capabilities.

As part of the HP TAC Partner Program, the CipherMax CM140T has been tested for compatibility with the MSL2024, MSL4048, MSL8096, MSL6000 Series, ESL E-Series and EML E-Series HP tape libraries, including SDLT600, LTO-3 and LTO-4 HP drives.

"This testing will streamline the deployment of our storage security solutions with HP tape libraries," said Ray Kao, chairman & CEO of CipherMax. "In addition, we realize that most companies need the flexibility to encrypt data using a mix of legacy LTO and LTO-4 tape drives on multi-generation media types. This certification ensures that both HP legacy and LTO-4 HP tape drives are compatible with the CipherMax storage security solution, which automatically manages mixed media together in common tape pools."

The CipherMax CM140T secures sensitive information stored on tape media with standards-based 256-bit AES encryption and data compression in a 1U form factor. Its configurable architecture supports up to 16 Fibre Channel ports (or 32 ports in a clustered configuration) with an integrated switching function. The CM140T is compliant with the current IEEE P1619.1 draft standard for tape-based storage security. An inline processing architecture provides low-latency processing of compressed encrypted data for 8-12 tape drives.
