Cirque du Soleil Returns to BC

With two unique productions in 2008

Attention: Arts/Entertainment Editor, Assignment Editor, Lifestyle Editor, News Editor, Travel/Tourism Editor VANCOUVER/BC/MEDIA ADVISORY--(Marketwire - Nov. 1, 2007) - CIRQUE DU SOLEIL announces that it will return to Vancouver to present, for the first time ever in Western Canada, the live touring show Corteo under the trademark blue and yellow Grand Chapiteau (Big Top). Created in 2005 and directed by Daniele Finzi Pasca, Corteo will premiere in Vancouver in June 2008 for a limited engagement at Concord Pacific Place. Since it started in Montreal, Corteo has been touring in the United States dazzling audiences in every city it has visited. The show has so far been seen by more than 2 million people.

The Show

Corteo, which means "cortege" in Italian, is a joyous procession, a festive parade imagined by a clown. The clown pictures his own funeral taking place in a carnival atmosphere, watched over by quietly caring angels. The show brings together the passion of the actor with the grace and power of the acrobat to plunge the audience into a theatrical world of fun, comedy and spontaneity situated in a mysterious space between heaven and earth.

A CIRQUE DU SOLEIL classic, Saltimbanco has traveled the planet, and captivated audiences of all ages, nearly 10 million people around the world. Now, for the first time ever, Saltimbanco announces a Western Canadian Tour, launching in Victoria B.C. in May 2008! Saltimbanco is a stunning acrobatic adventure for the whole family to enjoy!

Saltimbanco is currently on a tour of over 40 arenas across Canada and the United States. With arenas, Cirque du Soleil can bring its shows to cities unable to host a big top, giving more people than ever a chance to enjoy a Cirque du Soleil show in their own town.

The Show

Saltimbanco-from the Italian "saltare in banco," which literally means "to jump on a bench"-explores the urban experience in all its myriad forms: the people who live there, their idiosyncrasies and likenesses, families and groups, the hustle and bustle of the street and the towering heights of skyscrapers. Between whirlwind and lull, prowess and poetry, Saltimbanco takes spectators on an allegorical and acrobatic journey into the heart of the city.
