City Controller Wendy Greuel Addresses TOWN HALL Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - November 24, 2009) - The Honorable Wendy Greuel, Controller, City of Los Angeles, will address TOWN HALL Los Angeles on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at the Omni Los Angeles Hotel.

On programs implemented to reduce the city's budget deficit, Greuel stated, "I'm pleased that we were able to collect nearly $3 million since the inception of the delinquent taxpayer program. The millions of dollars we have saved will allow us to close the city's massive budget deficit. With over $107 million in delinquent taxes still to be collected, we will remain vigilant cracking down on tax cheats."

Prior to being sworn in as City Controller of Los Angeles on July 1, 2009, Greuel served for seven years as a Los Angeles City Councilmember representing the Second District in the Northeast San Fernando Valley. During that time, she also served as Vice-Chair of the Budget Committee and as a member of the Audits and Government Efficiency Committee. Greuel has sought to reduce the influence of money on the political process by banning city commissioners from fundraising. In 1997, Greuel joined the Corporate Affairs Department of DreamWorks SKG. Prior to that, in 1993, she served with Cabinet Secretary Henry Cisneros as the Field Operations Officer for HUD, and oversaw its emergency response and recovery programs following the 1994 Northridge earthquake.

The Los Angeles City Controller's office is responsible for budgetary control of all city funds as authorized by ordinance, pre and post-audit approval and release of city funds, and reconciliation against city checks issued and paid.
