City of Manor, Texas Selects Spigit to Drive Innovation and Facilitate Government/Citizen Interaction

Spigit Provides Collaboration and Government Idea Management Solutions

PLEASANTON, CA--(Marketwire - January 5, 2010) - Spigit, the leader in innovation management software for the enterprise, today announced it has been selected by the City of Manor, TX to implement a community-based idea management system that fosters engagement with its citizens. This customer win by Spigit demonstrates the growing trend by government agencies to implement social networking tools to aid and involve the people in their initiatives.

Spigit and The City of Manor have teamed up to implement an innovation platform called Manor Labs to increase interaction with its citizens. Manor Labs is a common space for citizens to share their ideas on how to improve city operations. Ideas are collected based on the different city departments including: administration, development, information technology, municipal court, police department, public works, utility billing, and economic development. In conjunction with Manor Labs, the City of Manor is also participating in Peace Dot, a Stanford University initiative. Peace Dot, led by BJ Fogg of the Persuasive Technology Lab, seeks to engage citizens globally in finding ideas that promote peace.

"We believe that government/citizen interaction and transparency is the key to maintaining a solid relationship with our citizens and we chose Spigit because they have a reputation for providing the best turn-key yet customizable solution for building innovation communities," said Dustin Haisler, the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Municipal Judge for the City of Manor, Texas. "Like all government entities, our city has a number of issues to address, and we believe that our citizens have great ideas, knowledge and experience."

Through this platform, they are seeing ideas that would likely not have had any visibility. Government entities are embracing social media tools more and more to reach their citizens. According to U.S. CIO Vivek Kundra, Web 2.0 technologies are extremely powerful and should be harnessed by agencies to improve communications, increase productivity and facilitate government transparency. Social networking sites with government partners can help achieve a government's mission and promote cooperation across government, it can also establish connections across traditionally isolated and geographically dispersed organizations.

"This is an ideal example of how government entities can utilize our purpose-built innovation software," said Paul Pluschkell, CEO and Co-Founder of Spigit. "This customer win, along with our recent partnership with MetroStar, demonstrates that we are gaining momentum in the government sector."
