City of Montreal: New edition 'Clean Home and Green Garden-Guide to Healthy Home Maintenance and Ecological Gardening'

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - May 26, 2006) - Montreal has a by-law which prohibits the use of pesticides outdoors throughout the territory. To help the public adopt ecological alternatives, Montreal launched the new edition of the popular "Clean Home and Green Garden - Guide to healthy home maintenance and ecological gardening". Each year, an increasing number of Montrealers become aware of the health and environmental dangers associated with the use of household maintenance products. This reference guide promotes alternatives to pesticide use and is filled with "green" tips and ideas to protect our health and save the environment.

The guide offers simple solutions, tips and recipes for household cleaning products, as well as for the maintenance of your indoor plants, lawn and garden. The proposed recipes for environment-friendly products are effective and less costly than commercially available products. The guide is an excellent way to bypass toxic products which are often harmful to the health of humans and animals as well as detrimental to the environment's biological balance.

Montreal has introduced a series of tools to help Montrealers garden without pesticides. They include fliers, brochures, information sessions and a Web site. For more information, and to consult the guide, please log on to ville.montreal.qc.ca/pesticides. The guide is available at borough points of service, Acces Montreal offices and eco-quartiers.
