City of New Baltimore, Michigan Secures Critical Utilities With Proxim and Troy Tech Services

Public Park Vandalism Stops After Wireless Security and Surveillance System Installed

SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwire - October 17, 2007) - Proxim Wireless Corporation (NASDAQ: PRXM), a leader in core-to-client solutions for broadband municipal wireless networks, today announced that, working in conjunction with Proxim Platinum Partner Troy Tech Services, it has supplied a broadband wireless security and surveillance network to the City of New Baltimore, Michigan. The system provides New Baltimore with wireless video surveillance capabilities that enable critical utilities such as water and wastewater facilities to be monitored from a centralized command center.

"We were having problems with vandals trying to break into our public park concession stands and causing damage," said John Bolgar, Chief of Police of the New Baltimore, Michigan Police Department and Mayor Thomas A. Goldenbogen. "With the wireless security and surveillance system in place, there have been no further issues at these public locations. Moreover, we have been able to secure our water and wastewater facilities from the even greater potential threat of terrorism."

The New Baltimore system uses IP-based video surveillance cameras to monitor the city's water and wastewater facilities, including water towers, pumping stations and sewerage treatment plants. Whenever a camera detects motion or other triggers, the system sends an alert and the video feed to the centralized command center. This information is transported from the remote locations to the command center using the Proxim Tsunami™ MP.11 Model 4954-R products for point-to-multipoint wireless connections and Proxim Tsunami.GX family products for point-to-point wireless links. The point-to-multipoint connections take advantage of the 4.9 GHz spectrum dedicated for public safety applications. A major advantage of the wireless system is that it eliminates recurring service fees of conventional wired or fiber optic network service. Partial funding for the wireless security system was provided by a federal homeland security grant.

"New Baltimore wanted to add as much visibility as possible to areas of the city such as water and wastewater facilities that are critical to the safety and health of its residents," said Debbie Schiller, Vice President of Troy Tech Services. "Using the Proxim wireless system, we were able to design and install a solution that meets the city's requirements in a robust and cost-effective manner."

New Baltimore is currently considering expanding the system to add surveillance cameras in high-traffic areas and to provide wireless voice and data services to more city facilities and departments.
