Classroom of the Future Grant Winner Announced at TIES

More than 250 Minnesota Schools Competed for Tierney Brothers Classroom of the Future Technology Grant

MINNEAPOLIS, MN--(Marketwire - December 16, 2009) - Blackduck High School in Blackduck, Minn. is the winner of the 2009 Tierney Brothers Classroom of the Future Technology Grant. The award was presented in front of nearly 2,000 attendees at the 2009 TIES Education Technology Conference yesterday in Minneapolis.

Blackduck High School Superintendent Bob Doetsch was on hand for the announcement, which was made by Minnesota Department of Education STEM specialist Dr. Joel Donna and Tierney Brothers, Inc. CEO Tom Tierney.

More than 250 schools competed for the 2009 grant, which was developed by Minneapolis-based Tierney Brothers to raise awareness about the benefits of classroom technology.

Blackduck High School was selected based on how other technology programs and tools have been used in the school, how programs were first initiated, technology goals, challenges and opportunities, and measureable impact on student engagement and learning.

"We're very happy to receive this award," said Doetsch. "It definitely won't go to waste; we use this type of equipment every day. It will be used over and over again by a highly trained staff that truly deserves it."

Plans will begin early in 2010 for installation of a fully-integrated Tierney Brothers Classroom of the Future technology suite that includes a SMART Board™ interactive whiteboard with classroom-wide interconnectivity, Epson projector and software.

"This grant is really making a difference for schools," said Tierney. "We see the difference it makes and it's kind of cool to be able to provide a solution that the schools really appreciate."
