Clearwell Bolsters E-Discovery Platform With Expanded Support for Guidance EnCase Forensic Files

Newest Version of Clearwell E-Discovery Platform Directly Processes Logical Evidence Files and Forensic Image Files, Eliminating Manual Steps and Reducing Costs

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA--(Marketwire - January 25, 2010) - Clearwell Systems, Inc., a leader in intelligent e-discovery, today announced version 5.1 of its market-leading Clearwell E-Discovery Platform®, which includes expanded support for Guidance Logical Evidence Files (LEF) and Forensic Image Files (E01). The latest version can directly process LEF and E01 files, while ensuring defensibility and chain of custody. This allows IT, security and litigation support professionals to eliminate manual, time-consuming processes and deliver further cost savings to their organizations.

In a recent Enterprise Strategy Group survey, 73% of organizations stated that they planned to bring all or a portion of the electronic discovery process in house. "Several enterprises use Guidance solutions for data collection and the next logical investment is in a product that can process and analyze this in conjunction with other data gathered," said Brian Babineau, senior analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group. "By being able to quickly and accurately process data in Guidance EnCase® images without manual extraction, Clearwell stands out as a vendor that is not only streamlining the electronic discovery process -- they are making it much easier for customers to better leverage their investments in Guidance solutions."

Historically, IT Security, Forensics and Legal teams had to go through a difficult and time-consuming process to manually extract data from forensic images prior to processing, analysis and review. The Clearwell E-Discovery Platform version 5.1 provides direct and legally defensible access to Guidance LEF and E01 files without the need to manually extract data. Clearwell provides detailed pre-processing, processing, analysis, and review of all files, including individual emails within .pst files and individual files in containers such as .zip files.

Key capabilities include:

Pre-Processing Filters: Users can interactively filter data within
EnCase images by custodian, date, strong file type, and file size.
Clearwell also provides one-click filtering of data within EnCase
images by NSRL database list (commonly known as NIST list) and custom
known file lists, significantly reducing downstream processing and
    review costs.

Pre-Processing Analytics: Visually summarizes overall data
characteristics within the EnCase image and presents detailed analysis
by custodian, timeline, and file type. Users can quickly confirm that
all case data has been collected and better estimate e-discovery budget
    and timeline.

Processing and Analysis: Brings Clearwell's processing and analysis
capabilities to data within the EnCase image, including de-duplication,
multi-language support, auto-filters, transparent search, concept
search, and people analytics. Users can assess case facts and perform
search without manually extracting data from EnCase images.

Review and Production: Provides comprehensive review and production
capabilities for data in EnCase image, including native viewing of
files, redaction, and multiple forms of production. Users can review
and produce documents while maintaining legal defensibility and chain
    of custody.

"One of the top feature requests from our customers has been the ability to directly process, analyze and review data in Guidance LEF and E01 files -- this new functionality is a direct result of that feedback," said Kamal Shah, VP of product management and marketing at Clearwell Systems. "We invite Guidance EnCase customers to evaluate this new release, free of charge, and experience the cost and time savings first-hand."

Clearwell Systems will showcase the Clearwell E-Discovery Platform version 5.1 at the U.S. Department of Defense Cyber Crime Conference January 25-27, 2010 in St. Louis.
