Clearwell Systems Receives Highest Possible Rating in Leading Analyst Firm's E-Discovery MarketScope

Clearwell Rated "Strong Positive," Report Identifies Accelerating Trend of E-Discovery Moving In-House

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA--(Marketwire - January 5, 2010) - Clearwell Systems, Inc., a leader in intelligent e-discovery, today announced it has received the highest possible rating of "strong positive" in Gartner, Inc.'s, 2009 MarketScope for E-Discovery Software Product Vendors (1).

According to the Gartner report, "The recession has accelerated the move to in-house e-discovery and more companies have bought or are considering bringing the e-discovery process in-house. Using this research note, enterprises can build a business case, create a list of possible vendors and determine which ones best meet their needs." (2)

The report also states that, "the main areas of cost reduction are on processing data by external service providers and less time and therefore money spent on outside attorney review, as less material is passed to them. These benefits are achieved by defensibly culling the amount of data that is passed on to further steps in the e-discovery process, by allowing in-house attorneys to 'go back to the well' and refine their searches, coming up with either more data (to avoid sanctions) or to refine existing data sets to the relevant documents to pass on for further consideration."

As they bring e-discovery in-house, legal and IT teams traditionally have been forced to use multiple, disparate products to conduct e-discovery, resulting in a rigid process that is costly to implement, takes longer to complete and increases the risk of errors. The Clearwell E-Discovery Platform provides pre-processing, processing, analysis, review, redaction, and production in a single, integrated product, addressing the most costly phases of e-discovery. Through one single product, enterprises, government agencies, and law firms can support the iterative, back-and-forth e-discovery workflow of the real world, making the process cost-effective and defensible.

"We believe Clearwell's rating is testament to our ability to: address our customers' key pain points, continuously deliver innovative features like Transparent Search, and provide a highly scalable product that proves significant business value in hours versus months," said Kamal Shah, vice president of product management and marketing at Clearwell.

The report evaluated vendors in the e-discovery space on overall viability, customer experience, market understanding, sales execution and pricing, product strategy, and product and sales strategy. The report ratings range from strong negative to strong positive, and Clearwell received the highest possible rating.

According to Gartner, a vendor with a 'strong positive' rating is "viewed as a provider of strategic products, services or solutions," and customers are advised to "continue with planned investments," while potential customers should "consider this vendor a strong choice for strategic investments."
