The Climate Change and Emissions Management Corporation Invites Full Proposals for $120 Million in Funding

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Nov. 18, 2009) - The Climate Change and Emissions Management (CCEMC) Corporation is inviting 30 organizations to submit detailed proposals for funding consideration. The corporation has $120 million available for clean technology projects that address energy conservation and efficiency, carbon capture and storage, enhancing biological systems and greening energy production (alternative and renewable energy) and climate change adaptation.

"The CCEMC believes that advances in clean technology will provide great opportunities to reduce emissions," says CCEMC Chairman and former Syncrude CEO Eric Newell. "Based on the exceptional response to our initial expression of interest we are confident that prudent investment in clean technology projects will promote transformative change."

The CCEMC received a total of 223 submissions at end of September in response to an initial call for expressions of interest, which combine to represent a total funding request of more than $1.6 billion. The 30 projects selected for full proposals represent the most promising ideas. Proposals are due by the end of February 2010. CCEMC will evaluate the proposals and notify successful proponents by the end of May.

Detailed project proposals being requested address CCEMC targeted funding areas including energy efficiency and energy conservation, greening energy production and carbon capture and sequestration. The CCEMC will continue to participate in more funding initiatives and other measures to build and maintain a balanced portfolio of projects that reduce emissions and support adaptation.

"Clean technologies will reduce emissions and enhance the economic and environmental value of energy resources," said Newell. "By supporting ideas and initiatives at the leading edge of the green economy, we will reduce emissions and in the process, support green jobs."

The CCEMC is an independent, not-for-profit organization whose mandate is to establish or participate in funding for initiatives that reduce emissions and support adaptation. With support from dedicated funds provided by the Government of Alberta, the CCEMC invests in climate change knowledge, technology development and operational deployment.
