CoQ10 Supplementation Speeds Recovery for Heart Patients

RICHMOND HILL, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - July 23, 2009) - According to a 2008 study by the Gulhane Military Medical Academy the use of CoQ10 for patients undergoing heart related surgery can help aid in recovery, reduce need for certain medications and reduce the length of hospital stays. CoQ10 functions as an antioxidant, protecting cells against the effects of free radicals, which damage cells, and may play a role in heart disease and other diseases. CoQ10 is also an important co-factor in energy production, which helps with myocardial (heart) contraction.

The 2008 study followed thirty patients scheduled for elective coronary artery bypass surgery. Comparisons were made with a control group and the results of the study indicate "supplementation with CoQ10 can significantly improve clinical outcomes in patients."

"Myocardial concentrations of CoQ10 are significantly lower in patients with congestive heart failure than in healthy individuals. Oral supplementation can increase these levels efficiently and non-invasively" says Peter Karner, RHN and Education Director for Platinum Naturals.

One issue with many natural supplements is the amount a person has to take to gain an effect, because of poor absorbency of the ingredients in pills and capsules. Platinum Naturals, a Canadian supplement manufacturer, claims to maximize the absorption of its CoQ10 by emulsifying it in omega oils within a soft gel capsule. Omega oils are a key ingredient in Omega Suspension Technology (OST)™ Platinum's exclusive nutrient delivery system was developed to enhance absorption of nutritional supplements.
