Cold Remedy-COLD-fX-Helps Keep Racers Healthy for Famous Ice Canoe Race

QUEBEC CITY, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - Feb. 1, 2007) - Dodging ice flows and combating the frigid waters of the St. Lawrence River, 225 ice canoe racers will be competing in the legendary canoe race presented by COLD-fX® this Sunday, as part of the Mr. Christie Quebec Winter Carnival. Each participant was given a four month supply of COLD-fX to help protect against colds and flu, as they trained for one of the world's greatest winter competitions.

Steeped in tradition, this famous canoe race has been held at the Mr. Christie Quebec Winter Carnival every year since its creation 53 years ago. Long before this became a competitive sport, canoeing in the icy waters of the St-Lawrence was an essential way of life for its coastal inhabitants, since this was the only mode of transportation and communication between the River's two shores during the winter.

This year, 45 teams of adventurous men and women will compete in the Carnival's extreme canoe race, defying the powerful current and numbing waters of the St-Lawrence between Quebec City and Levis. "These athletes must train year-round for this unique and extreme sport that demands strategy, endurance and being in top health," says Francois Larochelle, President of the Quebec Association of Ice Canoe Racers who will also be competing in his 7th Carnival canoe race. "Most of the canoe racers have been taking COLD-fX since last November. I haven't been sick with a cold or flu since! We count on COLD-fX to help us perform at our best and we are very happy to have their support."

"We have a solid relationship with athletes across Canada, so sponsoring the Quebec Carnival canoe race is a perfect fit," says Dr. Jacqueline Shan, President, CEO and Chief Scientific Officer of CV Technologies, the maker of COLD-fX. "We are proud to support such a long-standing and traditional sporting event that is unique not only to Quebec, but to the world."

The preliminaries will take place on Friday Feb. 2 at 7 p.m. This qualifying round is moving this year from the Plains of Abraham to Saint-Joseph Street in the heart of the old City. In a race against the clock, canoe racers will push their canoes along the snow-covered street towards the COLD-fX finish line. Their finish times will determine their starting positions for the final race taking place on Sunday Feb. 4 at 1:30 p.m. in Bassin Louise at the Old Port of Quebec.

Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded to the winning teams in an award ceremony following the race on Sunday.
