Common Wealth Credit Union Launches Young & Free Spokesperson Search

New Young & Free Platform Provides Financial Solutions for Young Albertans

LLOYDMINSTER, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Oct. 3, 2007) - As of today, finance is fun for young people in Alberta. Common Wealth Credit Union (CWCU), Alberta's fourth largest credit union with 14 branches and over 52,000 members, introduces Young & Free, the first free financial management service package for young Albertans. The Young & Free platform includes a sweet package of free, unlimited banking services plus a much-anticipated Young & Free spokesperson search to find a savvy young person to represent and be the voice of 17 to 25-year-olds. Further, Young & Free members will have access to a microsite jammed with helpful hints, polls, blogs and trivia to help them move towards financial independence.

"We're very excited to launch Young and Free, the first financial offering that engages and encourages young Albertans to become more involved in managing their own finances," said Jeff Mulligan, president and CEO, Common Wealth Credit Union. "By initiating a spokesperson search as part of Young and Free, we are strengthening Common Wealth Credit Union's position as a thought leader in the credit union industry."

The Young & Free platform is an important addition to other financial management options, as it's built for and with young people's input. It's free from any unnecessary service charges, thereby allowing more resources for 17 to 25-year-olds to protect, manage and save their money.

Starting today, Young & Free members will be able to submit entries and vote for the first Young & Free spokesperson. The spokesperson contest is open to any Albertan resident between the ages of 19 and 25 who possesses the knowledge and ability to connect with his or her peers on a variety of topics from finance to pop culture.

The winning spokesperson will be employed by Common Wealth Credit Union and is expected to regularly participate in events, blogs and interviews as the Young & Free youth ambassador. Contestants and members can view, submit and vote on video entries online at

Common Wealth Credit Union will accept applications for the Young & Free spokesperson contest from October 3, 2007 until October 28, 2007.
