Companies in Discrete Industries Need to Focus on More Than Just Demand Planning, According to Recent Aberdeen Report

PHOENIX, AZ--(Marketwire - January 17, 2008) - A recent Aberdeen Report on Demand Management practices concludes that the best-in-class companies focus on external collaboration, customer level forecasting and integration with order management. JustEnough Software Corporation, whose solutions calculate over 1.5 billion forecasts a year for their customers, co-sponsored the report. The study was based on the use, experiences and intentions of more than 260 enterprises using demand management technologies.

Among the findings, results show best-in-class companies are 2.5 times more likely to integrate order management tightly with the demand planning process. According to the report, demand management in discrete industries requires a heavy focus on internal and external collaboration with both sales as well as distribution/dealer channels.

For companies looking to improve integration, the report suggests deploying either an on-premise or on-demand application.

"On-demand service can provide the necessary 'independence' and hosted/web access that can allow both the distributor/retailer and the manufacturer (and the distribution channel) to leverage the sharing and pooling of sales information," said Nari Viswanathan, Research Director of Supply Chain and Logistics at Aberdeen. "On-demand solutions can potentially solve the chronic lack of sales data for enabling accurate forecasting."
