Compugen Sponsors Search for Canadian Green IT Initiatives

Canada's Smartest IT includes Green IT, Virtualization, Managed Risk and Business Intelligence

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - 11 March 2010) - Compugen Inc. is pleased to announce that it is a diamond-level sponsor of a new important Canadian Green IT Initiative. Canada's Smartest IT is an initiative spearheaded by Info-Tech Research Group of London, Ontario, in association with ITWorld Canada, to identify and publicize innovation in a number of IT domains. Compugen, in conjunction with IBM, is sponsoring the GreenIT component of this search. Sponsors, in addition to Compugen, include a number of other leading Canadian technology enterprises, consumers of technology and solution providers.

"Compugen has recognized the integrated nature of IT, both as an enabler of efficiencies in business process, and a generator of new possibilities. Improvements in disparate technology domains, such as virtualization to reduce server spread in the datacentre, unified communications to enable more effective telecommuting, better print fleet management, or creative recycling through our Green4Good program, have immediate impacts for the better, but also open up greater possibilities. We have been amazed at how our modest initiatives have ramified throughout every aspect of our business," said Andrew Stewart, Vice President, Corporate Services and Marketing.

Several Compugen initiatives have contributed to this evolution in perspective:

VirtualONE virtualization practice - Compugen has developed a multi-vendor holistic approach to virtualization that takes into account existing infrastructure, power consumption and datacentre hardware consolidation goals and financial constraints to get the most benefit from each virtualization initiative.

Communications infrastructure - Compugen, which designs and builds communications infrastructure for its clients nationally, is itself evolving towards a fully mobile operation; the effect is to permit anytime, anywhere connectivity between staff, customers and suppliers, allowing many staff to work mostly from home offices or at locations that reduce or eliminate commuting, thus reducing the company's carbon footprint.

Green4Good Charity Technology Pool Program - Compugen's recycling and finance division has developed an innovative program that allows an enterprise with end of life IT equipment the ability to convert their aging IT assets into a donation to the Compugen Technology Pool, the proceeds of which can be directed to a charity of the donor's choice. This allows the charity to acquire newer technology and the donor to be relieved of the asset disposition costs. It also permits more equipment to remain in service for longer, as old equipment in good working order can be securely wiped of identifying data and resold.

As part of its developing commitment to environmentally sustainable IT, Compugen is a member or a participant in several industry initiatives.

Think Green Alliance - Compugen is now participating in The Think Green Alliance, a community of businesses and organizations that are committed to providing environmentally and economically sustainable services, products and goods.

The Green Grid - Compugen participates in The Green Grid, a global consortium dedicated to developing and promoting energy efficiency for data centres and business computing ecosystems. Compugen is a general member of this organization dedicated to developing energy-efficient datacentre models, metrics and standards.

EPEAT procurement - Compugen is an authorized EPEAT reseller.

Climate Savers participation - Compugen is an Affiliate Member of Climate Savers.

Microsoft® Authorized Refurbisher (MAR) - Compugen is the first commercial MAR in Canada, and has been a part of the Community MAR program for some time. Microsoft's MAR program improves the supply chain for refurbished computers, extending the life of equipment and ensuring that end-users are supplied with licensed operating systems on used equipment.

In recognition of its innovative stance in the virtualization sphere, Compugen has been named VMware Partner of the Year - Compugen was recognized by VMware for its leadership role in designing virtualization solutions that leverage the full capabilities of VMware's virtualization technology to consolidate the datacentre, reduce power consumption and improve management.
