Con-way Truckload Drivers Reach Three-Million-Mile Mark

Jim Cory, Ron Dodson and Jim Freeman Recognized for Achieving Career Milestone

JOPLIN, MO--(Marketwire - January 4, 2010) - Con-way Truckload, a full truckload carrier and subsidiary of Con-way Inc. (NYSE: CNW), today announced that three of its professional drivers have achieved the elite career milestone of three million miles of driving. The company recognized company driver Ron Dodson of Lee's Summit, Mo., and owner-operators Jim Freeman of Webb City, Mo., and Jim Cory of Joplin, Mo., for their accomplishments at a recent ceremony at its Joplin headquarters. During Con-way Truckload's 58-year history, only 13 of its drivers have reached the three-million-mile mark.

"Drivers are the heart and soul of our company, and I am proud to have the opportunity to recognize Jim Cory, Ron Dodson and Jim Freeman for their outstanding achievement," said Herb Schmidt, president of Con-way Truckload. "Three million miles is the equivalent of traveling along Route 66 from Chicago to Santa Monica, Calif., 1,255 times -- an extraordinary accomplishment. We are tremendously proud to have these exemplary drivers on our team."

Ron Dodson began his driving career with Con-way Truckload in 1984 and has been a professional driver for 40 years. Maintaining awareness on the road is his primary advice for drivers.

"The biggest lesson I've learned during my years as a truck driver is that it's absolutely critical to remain aware of your surroundings," said Dodson. "You have to stay vigilant and pay attention to what you're doing at all times."

In addition to excelling in his driving career, Dodson has also bowled a perfect score 33 times and earned more than 300 kickboxing trophies. He has one daughter and four grandchildren.

A professional driver for 37 years, Jim Freeman joined Con-way Truckload in 1985 as an owner-operator. He has also been named Owner-Operator of the Month twice.

"My dad taught me to drive in a dump truck and I guess that put driving in my blood because I've been driving ever since," Freeman said. "Time goes by so quickly when I'm on the road and I think that's because I really enjoy what I do."

Freeman is a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is married to his wife, Patty, and has two daughters.

Jim Cory has been driving professionally for 44 years and joined Con-way Truckload in 1979. He has been awarded Owner-Operator of the Month four times. Cory points to proper trip planning as one of the keys to his success.

"You have to allow yourself plenty of time and never leave late," he said. "Allowing yourself adequate time helps you maintain safety and arrive on time."

In his spare time, Cory enjoys classic vehicles. He has restored six antique cars and four antique tractors, and won several trophies from car shows. Cory has three daughters.
