Convictions Under the Fisheries Act

QUEBEC CITY, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - April 12, 2010) - Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Quebec Region, has released a list of Magdalen Islands Area fishers fined by Judge Whittom on March 17, 2010, for various violations of the Fisheries Act.

The total amount of the fines imposed on the fishers is $6,500. The offenders are:

During the 2009 seal hunt, failure to sever the two axillary arteries of seals. $500
Germain Cyr
(Îles-de-la-Madeleine)
Possession of lobsters less than the minimum size and of berried females. $4,500 + suspension of licence for the first 4 days of the 2010 season.
Léger Leblanc
(Îles-de-la-Madeleine)
During the 2009 seal hunt, failure to crush the cranium of a seal. $500
Rolland Turbide
(Îles-de-la-Madeleine)
Taking Atlantic surf clam in a closed area. $1,000
