Correctional Service of Canada: Escape From Stan Daniels Healing Centre

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - June 20, 2009) - At approximately 9 p.m. on June 19, inmate Wayne Louis WARD escaped from Stan Daniels Healing Centre. Staff conducted a search of the entire facility and the grounds but WARD could not be found. Edmonton City Police have been notified and warrants have been issued.

WARD is a 42 year old Metis offender serving a 6 year, 11 month sentence for Armed Robbery, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Unlawfully At Large.

WARD has a fair complexion, brown hair and brown eyes. He stands 170 cm (5'7") tall and weighs 75kgs (166 lbs).

Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of WARD is asked to contact the Edmonton Police Service.

The Stan Daniels Healing Centre is operated and staffed by Native Counselling Services of Alberta (NCSA) and is located at 9516 101 Avenue in Edmonton. NCSA provides a range of spiritual and correctional programs to offenders on conditional release and minimum security inmates via sections 81 and 84 of the Corrections and Conditional Release Act through an agreement with the Minister of Public Safety.

At the time of the incident, there were 64 male offenders residing at Stan Daniels Healing Centre.

Native Counselling Services of Alberta will be conducting a joint review of the circumstances surrounding this incident.
