Correctional Service of Canada: Escape From Stan Daniels Healing Centre

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Dec. 27, 2009) - At approximately 1:15 a.m. on Sunday, December 27, 2009 inmate John Roy BOWERS escaped from Stan Daniels Healing Centre. Staff conducted a search of the entire facility and the grounds, but BOWERS could not be found. Edmonton City Police have been notified and warrants have been issued.

BOWERS is a 49-year-old Caucasian male offender serving a federal sentence of 40 months for the offences of Robbery (x3). His sentence commenced on February 4, 2008.

BOWERS has a fair complexion, short light brown hair and blue eyes. He stands 175 cm, (5' 9") tall and weighs 65 kg (144 lbs).

He has numerous tattoos on his body and scars on his forehead, right thumb and left thumb.

Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of BOWERS is asked to contact the Edmonton Police Service.

The Stan Daniels Healing Centre is operated and staffed by Native Counselling Services of Alberta Edmonton. NCSA provides a range of spiritual and correctional programs to offenders on conditional release and minimum security inmates via sections 81 and 84 of the Corrections and Conditional Release Act through an agreement with the Minister of Public Safety.

At the time of the incident, there were 51 male offenders residing at Stan Daniels Healing Centre.

The Correctional Service of Canada and Native Counselling Services of Alberta will be conducting a joint investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident and are working together with the Edmonton Police Service to locate the offender.
