Correctional Service of Canada: Inmate Death Bowden Institution

BOWDEN, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Sept. 27, 2009) - At approximately 1:40 p.m. on September 27, 2009, staff found inmate Gerald Mayhew deceased in his cell.

Cause of death has yet to be determined, but there were no signs of foul play.

Mayhew, aged 51, was serving a life sentence for Second Degree Murder which commenced July 22, 1998.

As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner are called into investigate. In addition, Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances surrounding this incident.

Bowden Institution is a federal institution in Bowden, Alberta with a current population of 563 medium security inmates, 72 minimum security inmates.
