Council on Competitiveness Announces New Senior Vice President

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - January 24, 2008) - Council on Competitiveness president, Deborah L. Wince-Smith, is pleased to announce that Cynthia R. McIntyre, Ph.D. has accepted the position of Senior Vice President of the Council.

In her new position, McIntyre will be responsible for strategic operations, planning, and development as pertains to Council programs and initiatives, and implementing Council-wide strategic plans and development.

McIntyre comes to the Council from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, the nation's oldest technological research university, where she served as Chief of Staff to the President, Associate Vice President for Policy and Planning, and Assistant Secretary of the Institute. In this position she managed the institutional performance planning process, monitored campus-wide progress on the university's strategic plan, and managed the budget for the Office of the President. Her leadership and oversight of intellectual property, technology transfer and new ventures guided this portfolio to become a successful enterprise for Rensselaer. McIntyre is also a member of the Spelman College Board of Trustees, where she serves as a member of the Investment Committee and is the Chair of the Audit, Finance and Budget Committee.

Dr. Shirley Ann Jackson, president of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, is a long-standing member of the Council's executive committee and a co-chair of the Council's new Energy Security, Innovation & Sustainability initiative.

McIntyre holds a B.S. in physics from the University of Texas, Austin; a M.A. in physics from Brandeis University; and a Ph.D. in physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
