Cray Inc. Appoints HPC Veteran Jan Silverman Senior Vice President, Corporate Strategy and Business Development

SEATTLE, WA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- November 2, 2005 -- Global supercomputer leader Cray Inc. (NASDAQ: CRAY) today announced that it has hired high performance computing (HPC) industry veteran Jan Silverman as senior vice president, corporate strategy and business development. Before joining Cray, Silverman held senior management and R&D positions at SGI, Hewlett-Packard, Apollo Computer and Lockheed Martin.

In this newly created position reporting to Cray President and CEO Peter Ungaro, Silverman will have primary responsibility for driving the company's business and marketing strategies. He will lead Cray's business development, product management and marketing organizations.

Most recently, Silverman was an independent consultant providing industry-specific product penetration strategies. Earlier, he was senior vice president of SGI's strategic technology initiatives and general manager of SGI's Industry Solutions and Services Group, which provides industry-specific solutions, professional services and customer support. Silverman also served as SGI's senior vice president of worldwide marketing and vice president of server product marketing. He managed marketing of SGI's high-end servers and graphics, system software, high-performance networking, storage and IP and OEM licensing initiatives.

Before joining SGI in 1999, Silverman held senior product marketing positions in Hewlett-Packard's server and workstation groups. During his 10 years at HP, he also led the company's early Internet program and microprocessor strategy. Silverman held R&D and marketing positions at Apollo Computer and was a published software engineer for Lockheed's Display Products Division.

Silverman earned a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an M.S. degree in computer science from Lehigh University.
