Critical Education Data Revealed at Solutions-Based Summit

Renowned Researchers Dr. Douglas Reeves, of The Leadership and Learning Center, and Dr. John Hattie Join 16 International Experts to Discuss Data Teams Critical Five-Step Practice Related to Student Achievement

ENGLEWOOD, CO--(Marketwire - June 18, 2010) -   A powerful, interactive two-day education Summit led by renowned education experts will provide educators a rare opportunity to hear cutting-edge research and learn how data-driven decision making and the collaborative Data Teams practice drives student results.

The Leadership and Learning Center is a premier provider of solutions for educators and school leaders who serve students K-12. The Summit, will be held at the Vail Cascade Resort and Spa in Colorado on June 29 and 30, 2010, and includes key-notes from Dr. Douglas Reeves and Dr. John Hattie, in addition to 16 international education experts.

The Summit stems from the evidence that schools do not need more research, but simply that they need to implement the changes made evident based on data they already have. Data teams and proper implementation are the crux of that change. A Data Team is a group of leaders from a given educational institution who target areas of student need by establishing methods aimed at analyzing current education data, and create practices designed to track continuous results and implement new changes based on the recommendations stemming from these results. While research has existed on Data Teams, this is the first time educators will actually share the results of the research and the implementation process in detail.

"We are very excited and proud to showcase our client successes, based on their intensive and diligent work, at our Data Teams Summit. The conference has been designed to provide a true learning experience, and includes keynote presentations, breakout sessions, networking opportunities, and planning time led by premier experts in the Data Team process," states Dr. Douglas Reeves, Founder of The Leadership and Learning Center. "While research has existed on Data Teams, the critical missing link is successful implementation, and teachers and educators as a whole play such a critical role in student success. Educators with successful Data Team implementation will also lead breakout sessions to illustrate and share-out hands-on experience. The conference will equip educators with a comprehensive approach to Data Team implementation and sustainability."

The two-day Summit will host a large variety of breakout sessions and workshops. In addition to Dr. Douglas Reeves, Dr. John Hattie, Professor of Education at the University of Auckland, New Zealand who has piloted more than 30 million dollars in research grants and has the largest collection of education research in existence, with evidence on more than 83.5 million students around the world will deliver a striking keynote.

Topics will include:

  • Response to Intervention (RTI) in the Data Teams process
  • English Language Learners (ELL) in the Data Teams process
  • Effective Data Team meetings
  • Leadership: Implementation and monitoring of Data Teams
  • The 21st Century Learner and Data Teams
  • Standards, assessment, and instruction in the Data Teams process
  • The role of Data Teams in school accountability systems

The Leadership and Learning Center distinguishes itself from other professional development and publishing organizations by bridging the critical gap from knowledge to action by ensuring real-world implementation. The focus of The Center is not merely to provide information, but to deliver extraordinary performance through extraordinary learning.

The Center, founded and led by Dr. Douglas B. Reeves, a pioneer in research and who has authored more than 20 books, continues to lead the way in helping increase student achievement in the most challenging schools and educational systems. Educators around the world particularly know The Center for work in high-poverty, high-minority schools, and the ground-breaking work in 90/90/90 schools (90% poverty, 90% minority, and 90% of students meeting or exceeding standards).

"As global leaders in enhancing student achievement, we focus on three goals: innovation, service and growth. Our innovations in teaching and leadership strategies help every student succeed. Our world-class service reflects the respect and commitment we have for every client and colleague. Our commitment to growth means that every year we serve an increasing number of students around the world. The bottom line is that extraordinary learning empowers people and transforms lives," said Reeves.
